"Taking Flight" is a two-year commitment from the Mid-Del Public Schools Foundation to support our teachers and fourth-grade students as they navigate into the new territory of teaching and learning the Common Core Standards, Oklahoma's newly adopted education standards.
We have listened to the wishes of elementary teachers to once again have visiting authors/illustrators in our district to stimulate children's love of reading as well as their interest in visual art. We have listened to district staff express the need for professional development to give our teachers the tools and techniques needed to teach the new Common Core Standards. Field trips and speakers will utilize partnerships with Tinker Air Force Base and Boeing and other local resources.
This two-week, cross-curricular unit developed around the theme of flight will include reading, writing, mathematics, the science of flight, and the history of aviation.
